About the Area of Side:

Side was once a little fishing village with a rich and ancient heritage. Pronounced “sea-day”. Side as we know it today, exists on the site of what was an ancient Pamphylian city dating back to the 8th century BC. The Old Town area is set on a headland with ancient city walls and archeological treasures such as the Temple of Apollo and Roman Amphitheatre. The beaches stretch out in both directions of the peninsula with choices of either the Side beach on the East side or the Kumkoy beach on the West side to choice from; both on the Mediterranean Sea and both sandy beaches.

Things have moved on a little since the halcyon days of the 1950s when Side first began to attract visitors. Primarily attracted for the abundance of ancient sites, the expanses of beautiful empty beaches did not go unnoticed. Over the ensuing years many 5* hotels popped up along the beach front promenade and the Old Town became a popular European tourist centre with gift shops, seafront restaurants and trendy bars.

East Side Beach (Side) is still largely in its natural state, backed by sand dunes and has escaped the developers shovels owing to the ruins of the Apollonian temple right behind the beach.

The waters are warm and calm making it perfect for taking a dip or something a little more active. You can rent a boat, go diving, or enjoy parasailing on Kumsal beach. This is also a great place to watch the sunset.

When you go to downtown Side, you will find the modern conveniences or bars, restaurants, and a nightclub among the ruins. If you want to take a day trip; Manavgat waterfalls are well worth visiting being less than 10 minutes drive away. For history buffs there are three other ancient cities in the vicinity: Perge, Selge, and Aspendos and a little further afield, whilst still only being within a one hour drive away, you have Antalya town with plenty of shopping malls and Old Town, plus around 11 golf courses in Belek area (international standards, some designed by World famous architects) and for the children or those seeking an action packed day, there is Land of Legends theme park.
